Thursdays offering.....

Well another Halloween has come and gone, and if you would look around this house you won't see a trace of it anywhere. while I didn't hand out any candy I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of kids that were on the street last night, a far cry from the past few years, maybe the art of Trick or Treating isn't lost after all.

Seeing all the kids last night certainly reminded me of how it used to be on Halloween when I was their age, after a long day at school with the only highlight being the Halloween party given by the room mothers,  we would rush home to get our homework done, and then play for a bit before suppertime. after dinner we would spend the next 30-45 minutes getting ready to go trick or treating, we would head out of the door and for the next 2 1/2 hours or more we would roam the endless streets of the subdivision ringing doorbells and knocking on doors in search of those sweet delights.

we would walk forever it seemed, our subdivision was so large there were countless streets to walk down, and back then it was us by ourselves walking around, while the parents stayed home passing out the candy. our parents liked to spook the house up for the trick or treaters, using strobe lights, scary sound effects and some good old fashioned imagination. for a lot of years growing up we had one of the coolest houses in the neighborhood because we went out of our ways (well the parents would) to scare everyone on such a special night.

after walking forever around getting all the candy we could the night would ware on and get later and later,as that happened, folks would begin to turn off their porch lights signifying the end of the trick or treating and we would walk home to see all the good stuff we got in our pillow cases that night. we would have to dump our candy into a pile, and our parents would go through it searching for opened pieces or any thing that looked tampered with and it would go into the "no good" pile to be destroyed. personally I think it was a way for our parent's to sort through the candy to see what they wanted out of the deal...

now days it seems when the Halloween season rolls around, I want to decorate as much as I can, however I think I am loving the party more than anything and once it's over all I want to do is take down the decorations for the year, so next year I will start doing that. now the house has been devoid of any Halloween decorations for a couple of days now. we get 29 full days of normality before black Friday is here and the kick off of the holiday season, lets enjoy it while we can..
